Album Review: Ultraviolence by Lana del Rey

I’ll go ahead and admit that I am a big Lana del Rey fan. Anyone who knows me knows that I am in love with her music. I’ve enjoyed all her past albums such as Born to Die and Paradise.

So recently, she released her third album Ultraviolence and I must say that I really enjoyed this album, not even being a biased fan at all. This was a great album, in my opinion. Some of her best songs were on this album such as “West Coast.” West Coast has so many layers and textures to it. If you’ve seen the music video, it takes place at a beach which I find ironic because if you listen to the song, it’s almost as if it’s a wave crashing on shore. It starts off upbeat like a racing wave and then when it hits the hook it turns into this dreamy lullaby as if the wave has crashed and expanded onto the shore… Okay, all this makes sense in my head I promise.

I was able to say that I could listen through this project without skipping a track for the most part. The only song I don’t particularly care for is Ultraviolence which is ironic because that’s the title of this entire album. Eh, maybe it’ll grow on me. I will say that her previous albums had more depth in terms of concept and content than Ultraviolence.

I loved this album overall though. I’ll give it a 4.5 out 5.
